Record Keeping and Data Protection
It is good practise for counsellors to keep written records of clients and counselling sessions. All client material is treated in complete confidence. Session notes are anonymised and may record background information and key issues worked on in the session. No identifying names or material is retained on records as a client ID number is used to replace such information. Client’s under the age of 18 years notes will be kept for five years after the age of 18 years. Uncollected artwork will only be kept for three months.
Other responsibilities as Client.
Clients are deemed responsible for:
• Asking about anything that is unclear to you or is causing concern.
• Communicating any changes in circumstances that may affect our work together.
• Respecting counsellors’ privacy, not searching, or contacting through social media.
Complaint Procedure
I would ask wherever possible to discuss any concern or issue with myself in order for us to resolve it. However, in the event you feel it necessary make a complaint, please contact the British Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapist (BACP) of which I am a member. The governing body will initiate an investigation.
